Genesco Marks 80th Anniversary with Community Gift
Genesco Inc. celebrated its 80th anniversary in August 2004 by making a commemorative contribution to the new Schermerhorn Symphony Center. On behalf and in honor of all Genesco employees, the Company’s gift of $100,000 provided a new concert piano for the state-of-the-art symphony center, which opened in September 2006. The nine-foot Hamburg Steinway piano was purchased in Germany and is named for Genesco employees.
Genesco Establishes Community Endowment as Part of 75th Anniversary
As part of the Company's 75th anniversary celebration, Genesco created two funds with The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, a non-profit organization dedicated to matching generosity with need.
Employee Scholarship Fund
Genesco's endowed employee scholarship fund assists children of Genesco employees and employees themselves, both full-time and part-time, in attending four-year colleges and universities. The selection process weighs merit and financial need with an emphasis on financial need. A history of extracurricular and civic participation is part of the selection criteria. Recipients are required to attend an accredited university or college.
Eligibility: Current employees or children of current employees of Genesco as of the application date, who will be enrolled as an undergraduate in an accredited institution for the following fall semester, are eligible to apply. The scholarship committee of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee serves as a third party organization overseeing the application and selection process. Applications may be accessed at http://www.cfmt.org/.
Genesco's "Helping People Get Back on Their Feet" Fund
Genesco's community endowment fund is designed to "Help People Get Back on Their Feet" and is administered through The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
"There are so many people in our area who need a little help or assistance to get back on their feet. We want to give back to our community in a way that can reach a broad range of people in need," said Genesco officials. "Our goal is to help people get their lives back on track, whether it’s homeless men, disadvantaged children, or drug-addicted mothers."
